Nanny Don’ts

Being a
nanny is an extremely important job and has many responsibilities. Since it is such an essential role and an important relationship in the children’s lives and their development, there are specific don’ts for nanny’s to exclude from your daily routine. Here are 5 don’ts for nanny’s to avoid during their daily routine.

Being on Cell Phones

In today’s society there are a lot of distractions from a cell phone device. Occasionally needing to use a cell phone is understandable and permitted, but being on a cell phone constantly throughout the day is not acceptable for a nanny. A nanny should be fully engaged with the children they are caring for and ignore the distractions created by a cell phone. If needed, put your phone on do not disturb, leave it in your purse or coat, or leave it in a separate room. Taking these simple steps will allow you to stay focused on your tasks with the children and keep you fully engaged in activities.

Not being Prepared

As a nanny, it is essential to have a daily plan prepared before you go to watch and care for the children. Children thrive on structure and schedules. Similar to a teacher, like a lesson plan, have ready tasks and activities throughout the day for the children to participate in and work on throughout the day. Once they have a solid routine and know what each day is going to entail, the children will fall right into place and start in on their activities as soon as the
nanny arrives and will be excited to take on the day.

Not being Adaptable

Even when a nanny’s prepare and are ready for the day ahead, there could be snags that cause a nanny to have to be adaptive and change course for their day. Being adaptable is an essential trait that is needed for a nanny to be successful! Sometimes a child gets sick or under the weather and you may need a day of relaxation, or you may need to run arrands you weren’t expecting, or any other unexpected activities that could happen throughout the day.
